Public consultation on the draft Action Plan on human rights defenders in environmental matters in Latin America and the Caribbean proposed by Chile, Ecuador and Saint Kitts and Nevis
Welcome to the virtual consultation! We invite you to learn about and take part in this process.
At the First Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement (COP1), in April 2022, it was agreed to create (Decision I/6) a Working Group on human rights defenders in environmental matters (Working Group). This Group is coordinated by Chile, Ecuador and Saint Kitts and Nevis and is in charge of developing an “Action Plan on human rights defenders in environmental matters in Latin America and the Caribbean” (Action Plan) that will be presented for consideration and approval at the third Conference of the Parties in April 2024.
The document that is submitted for consultation is the proposed Action Plan, which has been prepared by the Working Group coordinators. The Escazú Agreement, its Implementation Guide, and the results of a public consultation of the Annotated Index proposal were considered as inputs in its preparation.
