We are pleased to announce that the new National Water Profiles and the Regional Water Profile for Latin America and the Caribbean are now available on the CEPALSTAT portal. These profiles, accessible in both Spanish and English, provide an updated and in-depth overview of the state of water resources, consolidating key data for public policy development, regional cooperation, and sustainable water management.

Access to reliable data is essential: according to UNESCO, only 60% of countries worldwide have adequate freshwater monitoring networks (UNESCO, United Nations World Water Development Report 2024). In this context, the publication of these profiles represents a significant step forward for Latin America and the Caribbean—a region facing increasing water-related challenges due to climate change, population growth, and urbanization.

This achievement was made possible thanks to the collaborative work of ECLAC’s Natural Resources Division (NRD) and Statistics Division (SD). Their joint efforts have enabled the integration of high-quality data and its presentation in a clear and accessible format for decision-makers, researchers, and interested citizens.
