Organized by the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia, together with UNDP and the five United Nations Regional Commissions (UNECE, UNESCAP, UNECLAC, UNECA, and UNESCWA), the Forum reaffirmed the need to strengthen interregional cooperation to achieve a just, resilient, and sustainable energy transition.
During the session “Energy Connectivity, Resilience and Security: Global Best Practices,” ECLAC, together with representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) of Costa Rica, shared Latin America and the Caribbean’s progress in electric integration, highlighting the Electrical Interconnection System of the Central American Countries (SIEPAC) and the Regional Electricity Market (MER) as examples of successful cooperation.
In the panel on SDG 7 Roadmaps, participants emphasized the importance of coordinated planning and technical cooperation across regions, while Costa Rica’s participation in the same panel showcased its experience, benefits, and technical and regulatory challenges as part of the Regional Electricity Market (MER).
ECLAC’s participation in IFESD-14 reaffirmed its commitment to a just, resilient, and interconnected energy transition, in close collaboration with the other United Nations Regional Commissions.
The Forum concluded with the Skopje Declaration, which formalized the participating countries’ commitment to advancing toward a sustainable, inclusive, and secure energy future, symbolizing the spirit of cooperation that guides this global effort.
