Briefing note
The event organized by the “Grupo de Niñas, Niños, Adolescentes y Juventudes (NNAJ) del Mecanismo de Participación de Sociedad Civil MeSLAC – MGCY”, formed part of the plan they are carrying out to facilitate the participation of children, adolescents and young people in the region in the follow-up of the 2030 Agenda during the year 2023, in regional and global processes in the face of United Nations. Likewise, the plan seeks to carry out a regional consultation process that allows to identify the problems, recommendations and actions of children, adolescents and young people in the region and discuss the challenges they face, so that they can jointly find advocacy mechanisms that allow progress in the consolidation of common strategies.
Marina Gil, from ECLAC's Natural Resources Division, attended the event and gave an overview of SDGs 6 and 7 in Latin America and the Caribbean. The current situation and the progress of SDGs 6 and 7 in the region were presented, highlighting the challenges and opportunities, and the proposal of a sustainable and inclusive water and energy transition for LAC countries, which ECLAC is promoting. In her intervention, she also mentioned the Regional Water Dialogues organized at ECLAC headquarters in February 2023, where a Regional Action Agenda for Water was agreed upon, created with the participation of civil society, involving children and young people, among others.
