Open Justice Conference makes commitment on open environmental justice on the basis of the Escazú Agreement

The International Conference on Open Justice, organized by the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic and the International Network on Open Justice with the support of ECLAC was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on 27 and 28 August 2025. More than 500 participants from Judiciaries and other sectors from 21 countries took part in the event. 

The Conference adopted the Santo Domingo Declaration to boost democracy and transparency in the judicial sector through ten commitments, one of them being advancing towards an open environmental justice on the basis of the Escazú Agreement. 

During the meeting, the panel "Open Justice and Environmental Democracy: Building a New Dialogue between Citizens and the State" was moderated by ECLAC and was composed of members of the Judiciary of Costa Rica, UNDP and civil society.
