New methodologies and sources of information for the production of official statistics in the region

At the recent Cetic.br annual meeting, held in São Paulo, experts from around the world shared experiences on the use of emerging data sources for the production of official statistics. ECLAC's Statistics Division contributed its regional expertise in data integration, interoperability, and governance, connecting these advances with sustainable development priorities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

15th Annual Workshop on Survey Methodology (August 18 to 21, 2025)

The Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) and the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE/IBGE) held the fifteenth Annual Workshop on Survey Methodology from August 18 to 21, 2025. Considered a regional and international benchmark in methodological innovation for information and communication technology (ICT) statistics, this meeting brings together experts from national statistical offices, government agencies, academic institutions, the private sector, and international organizations.

This edition's central theme, "Integration is Key: Survey Methodology with Emerging Data Sources and Technologies," reflected a progressive approach in the statistical field.

The program addressed innovations in the incorporation of georeferenced data, artificial intelligence in image recognition, digital platform analysis, digital skills measurement, and the use of citizen data in the production of ICT statistics.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) actively participated as one of the international organizations present, contributing its experience in developing regional statistical capacities and its vision on data integration and quality. Its presence contributed to strengthening technical dialogue among the countries of the region, aligning methodological advances with the needs of Latin American and Caribbean countries within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
