The Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean is the main intergovernmental forum on women’s rights and gender equality in the region. It is organized by ECLAC, as the Secretariat of the Conference, with the support of UN Women. It is convened regularly, at least every three years, to identify the situation of women’s autonomy and rights at the regional and subregional levels, present public policy recommendations for gender equality, and undertake periodic assessments of the activities carried out in fulfillment of regional and international agreements.
Participants in the Regional Conference meetings include ECLAC’s Member States, associate members and observers with consultative status. In addition, other entities attend as observers, including United Nations funds, programs and specialized organizations as well as other autonomous institutions, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations.
