Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Will Give a Keynote Lecture at ECLAC

The President of the Republic of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, will deliver on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. local time (GMT-3), a keynote lecture at the central headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, in the framework of his official visit to Chile.

The Paraguayan leader, who took office on August 15, 2023, will be received by the United Nations regional organization’s Executive Secretary, Costa Rican economist José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.

Santiago Peña Palacios – born on November 16, 1978 in Asunción, capital of the Republic of Paraguay – is the youngest president in the democratic era of his country.

He studied economics at the Catholic University of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York.

His professional experience includes having worked at Paraguay’s Central Bank and at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C. Between 2015 and 2017, he served as the Minister of Finance of Paraguay.

This head of state has also served as a professor and has published various research studies in the areas of monetary policy and finance.

Members of the media are invited to attend the keynote lecture by President Santiago Peña, which will be held in the Raúl Prebisch conference room at ECLAC’s headquarters (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile).
