Prominent Spanish academic specialised in clusters Jon Azúa will give the XVIII Raúl Prebisch Lecture on Tuesday, 26 November, 2024 at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) headquarters, where he will be welcomed by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, the regional organisation’s Executive Secretary.
The President and founder of Enovating Lab will give his lecture, titled “Clustering a productive, competitive, prosperous, inclusive and sustainable economy: towards the co-creation of the economic development we want”, at 11:00 local time (UTC/GMT -3:00).
Jon Azúa holds an Industrial Engineering degree from Universidad de Anáhuac, UNAM (Mexico) and the Basque Country (E.T.S.I.I.T. in Bilbao), a Master’s in Economics and Business Management (M.E.D.) from Universidad de Navarra (I.E.S.E.-Barcelona) and a PhD (Doctorate in Business & Public Administration) from Lasalle University (USA).
He is currently a member of the governing bodies of the following non-profit organisations: Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation (Art and Culture); Innobasque (Basque Innovation Agency); Corporación Tecnológica TECNALIA (TECNALIA Technology Corporation); and Keralty Group.
In addition, he is a professor and researcher at the M.O.C. Affiliate Network (Harvard University’s Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness), the Instituto Vasco de Competitividad-Orkestra (Orkestra Basque Institute of Competitiveness) at Universidad de Deusto, and SINTONÍA (UPAEP Mexico). He is also Dean of the “Work Academy” at PwC and a member of the Consulting Affiliate Network at Shared Value Initiative.
Azúa has published several books, including Alianzas Coopetitivas para la nueva Economía (Coopetitive Alliances for the New Economy); Clusterizar y Glokalizar la Economía. La magia del Proceso (Clustering and Glocalising the Economy. The Magic of the Process); and Bizkaia 2050: Bilbao-Bizkaia-Basque Country.
Throughout his considerable career, he has received various distinctions, such as the Eisenhower Fellowship & World Wide Leadership Award (1998); MOC-ISC Affiliate Network Hall of Fame, Harvard University (2012); Honorary Advisor at SINTONÍA-UPAEP, Mexico (2012); IVC-Orkestra: Leading Competitiveness Impact (2013); Honorary Consul in Bilbao (2014); and Honorary Advisor at the Instituto Vasco de Competitividad-Orkestra, Universidad de Deusto (2019).
