The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, which will take place on June 30-July 3 in Seville, Spain, is a historic opportunity to lay the foundations for a new global financial governance, aligned with developing countries’ priorities and realities. In this context, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will emphasize the urgent financing challenges faced by the region and the pressing need to strengthen international cooperation, with the aim of moving towards more productive, inclusive and sustainable development.

A prominent delegation from the United Nations regional organization, led by Executive Secretary José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, will participate in the Conference to advocate for Latin America and the Caribbean’s position and to stress that the current context requires a resolute and coordinated response that would enable closing financing gaps and making progress on achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region.

“Domestic resource mobilization is vital to strengthening fiscal capacity and financing transformative investments, but it is equally urgent that we reform the international financial architecture to provide the region’s countries with more equitable and effective mechanisms for access to financing, debt management and representation in global decision-making,” ECLAC’s highest authority has said.

At this international gathering, ECLAC will participate in numerous events focused on cross-cutting issues that are relevant to the region’s development. The majority of these events will be attended by the Commission’s Executive Secretary, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.
