ECLAC Will Present 2025 Report on Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean
Work area(s)
José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, the United Nations regional organization’s Executive Secretary, will give a press conference on Thursday, July 17.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will unveil its annual report Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2025 on Thursday, July 17 at 11 a.m. local time in Chile (UTC/GMT-4), at a hybrid press conference (in-person and virtual) led by Executive Secretary José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs from the United Nations regional organization’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
In addition to providing a full overview of the evolution of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows at a global, regional and national level, the publication analyzes the potential of these inflows in key sectors for moving towards more productive, inclusive and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The first chapter of the report details the amounts of Foreign Direct Investment received by each country and subregion in 2024. It also reviews main trends (countries of origin, FDI components, destination sectors, mergers and acquisitions, among others) and addresses the prospects for 2025. This analysis includes the behavior of Latin American transnational companies, known as translatinas.
The second chapter analyzes FDI in mining and the potential of critical minerals (such as aluminum, cobalt, copper, graphite, lithium, nickel and rare earths) in Latin America and the Caribbean, while the third chapter examines Foreign Direct Investment for the region’s digital transformation.
Members of the media are invited to participate in person in the press conference.
