On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the headquarters of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Ceará (ALECE), located in Fortaleza, Brazil, Deputy Assis Diniz received a delegation from ECLAC. This delegation was composed of Javier Medina Vásquez, Deputy Executive Secretary of ECLAC, along with professionals Paulina Pizarro and Luis Riffo, journalist Arnaldo Santos, and sociologist Patricio Vergara. 

The central purpose of the meeting was to discuss the organization of the Third Regional Conference of Parliamentary Future Commissions, an initiative that seeks to position the Brazilian Northeast as a key actor in the construction of sustainable futures. During the meeting, Deputy Assis Diniz expressed his commitment to presenting the proposal to the President of the Legislative Assembly, Romeu Aldigueri, and raised the need to expand institutional coordination through the participation of the Northeast Consortium, thereby strengthening the reach and legitimacy of the event. 

ECLAC, with its recognized track record in development studies and planning in Latin America and the Caribbean, will provide the technical and prospective framework for this initiative. This effort is part of the Commission’s work lines regarding anticipatory governance and territorial development, and within the framework of the Network of Parliamentary Future Commissions. The objective is to promote the incorporation of the anticipatory governance approach in the region’s parliaments and to facilitate the replication of successful experiences between legislative branches and international organizations, oriented toward the construction of forward-looking public policies. 

The event is projected as a strategic space for defining a regional roadmap intended to enhance the role of parliamentarians in the integrated and sustainable development of Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of new global scenarios. It is expected that this conference will take place during the current year, convening political, academic, and social actors.
