The third meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC was held in Santiago, Chile, from June 1 to 3, 2005.
During this third meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas, country delegates reflected on strategic guidelines for regional statistical development and defined the Statistical Work Program for Latin America and the Caribbean 2005–2007.
The following substantive topics were examined:
- Human resource development and capacity building: towards a strategic vision.
- Development of national statistical systems and responsibilities of national statistical institutes.
- Monitoring the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs): challenges and opportunities for national statistical systems.
At the closing of the Conference, Mexico assumed the Presidency of the Statistical Conference of the Americas for the period 2005-2007. The Conference's Executive Committee also included Chile, Colombia, Spain, the United States, and Jamaica.
