Second Regional Conference on the Integration of Women into the Economic and Social Development of Latin America

The Second Regional Conference on the Integration of Women into the Economic and Social Development of Latin America was held in Macuto, Venezuela, from 12 to 16 November 1979. It convened by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC to appraise the implementation of the Regional Plan of Action and with a view to the forthcoming World Conference of the United Nations Decade for Women.

The Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean is a subsidiary body of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) which is convened on a regular basis, at least every three years, to identify the situation of women’s autonomy and rights at the regional and subregional levels, present public policies recommendations for gender equality, undertake periodic assessments of the activities carried out in fulfilment of regional and international plans and agreements on the subject, and serve as a forum for debates on relevant issues.

ECLAC has been given the mandate to convene the member States to sessions of the Regional Conference. Generally, a member country of ECLAC offers to host the conference. 

Agenda:
  1. Election of Officers
  2. Adoption of the agenda (E/CEPAL/CRM.2/L.1).
  3. Report of the Chairwomen of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on activities between the First and Second Regional Conference on the Integration of Women into the Economic and Social Development of Latin America
  4. Appraisal of the implementation of the Regional Plan of Action since the holding of the First Regional Conference, including an analysis of the situation of children and young people in relation to women and family
  5. Consideration of regional measures for the execution of programmes on women and their integration into development, including national and subregional recommendation, priorities and strategies, wich also serve the objectives of the 1980 World Conference of the United Nations Decade for Women, with special attetion to te aspects of employment, health and education. 
  6. Consideration of measures to expedite the generation, financing and execution of programmes on women and their integration into development. 
  7. Consideration and adoption of the report.
