The purpose of the meeting was the formal presentation of the Cartagena Group by the Government of Colombia, the invitation to the countries of the region to join this initiative and the presentation of the work plan.

Among the milestones of the work plan, the following are included:

  • A technical meeting of the Cartagena Group to present and discuss the document “Data Sources for Persons with Disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean from a Social and Human Rights Approach” and to provide training on disability-related approaches.
  • Organization of collaborative workshops with the Cartagena Group.
  • Presentation of a progress report during the Sixth Presiding Officers Meeting of the Regional Conference on Population and Development of Latin America and the Caribbean, along with ECLAC’s presentation of a diagnostic report on the situation of persons with disabilities in the region.
  • Holding a follow-up meeting with the Cartagena Group.
  • Presentation of the Cartagena Group’s report of recommendations to the Presiding Officers of the Conference.
