Briefing note
Beyond July: an integrated support to member States in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda
The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) takes place annually in July and is the most visible event on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is also the space in which Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) are presented, marking an important milestone for member States in their reporting of progress towards the achievement of the agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
However, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda happens beyond July. Countries integrate the SDGs in their planning instruments and budgets, national statistical offices monitor progress and collect relevant data and line ministries implement initiatives to advance in the path towards sustainable development. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the United Nations Development System (UNDS) accompanies member States at the national and regional levels, by producing methodologies and data, convening them to discuss best practices and providing advisory services and capacity building opportunities to strengthen their ability to implement the transformative actions and policies required to achieve the SDGs.
In this context, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), is partnering with the countries presenting their VNRs from the region in 2019- Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, St. Lucia- and the UN Resident Coordinator in said countries to share experiences of collaboration, with special emphasis on those that reflect action on the SDGs in review this year (SDG 4, 8, 10, 13, 16 and 17).
