ECLAC Extends its Condolences to the European Union for Brussels Bombings

ECLAC’s Executive Secretary sent a letter to the High-representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, expressed the organization’s solidarity and sent her condolences to the European Union after the bombings occurred today in Brussels.

The United Nations senior official sent a letter to Federica Mogherini, High-representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in which she expressed her grief and concern over the fatal victims and gave the fraternal wishes of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples on this tragic day.

Letter from Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, to the High-representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini:

Dear Ms. Mogherini,

It was with great consternation that we learned about the shocking events that occurred this morning in Brussels, the capital of Europe.

The entire ECLAC staff and I personally are deeply saddened by the irreparable loss of life in this unspeakable episode and should like to convey our solidarity and heartfelt condolences to the European Union family.  We would also like to express our most earnest hopes for the rapid recovery of the many injured.

Let this note carry the fraternal wishes of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, united in sadness with the European people on this tragic day.

As always, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.
