Instructions for visits

ECLAC welcomes group visits from higher education institutions, high schools and governmental institutions from around the world. The visitor program operates from March to November (excluding July) and is available on Wednesdays between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Visits are scheduled once a month for universities and other entities. For students in the final two years of high school, visits are scheduled twice a year.

Available dates for the first semester in 2026 are: 

• Universities and other institutions: 25 March, 29 April, 20 May and 24 June
• High schools: 17 June
  The group visits are free of charge. ECLAC does not facilitate individual visits.

Visits are conducted in Spanish and/or English

Types of visits:

• Academic Visits: Each visit begins with a presentation on ECLAC and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Depending on the availability of speakers, an additional presentation economic, social or environmental development in the region may be included upon request. Visits last two to three hours and require a minimum of 20 participants. They also include a short visit to the Hernán Santa Cruz Library, which organizes the academic visits.
• Guided Architectural Tours: Focused on the design and history of the ECLAC building, these tours are intended for architecture students and professionals. They last one hour, have a maximum capacity of 20 people and are organized by the Public Information Unit.
   

Application process and requirements

• Request: Complete the online form at least one month prior to the proposed visit.
• Confirmation: Once the visit is confirmed, you must submit a list of participants including full names of the supervisor and participants, email addresses and identification or passport numbers, no later than two weeks before the scheduled visit.
• Attendance and Punctuality: To avoid cancellation, a minimum of 95% of registered participants must attend. The group will wait no more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time.
• Rescheduling: Confirmed visits are subject to rescheduling or cancellation based on the organization's high-level activities.

Security and access rules 

To ensure safety and order at the ECLAC Headquarters, all visitors must adhere to the following protocols:

• Identification: Visitors must present a valid identification document upon arrival to receive a security credential to enter the premises. Accepted documents include an identity card, a driver's license, passport, laissez-passer, or documents issued by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. UN staff may use a standard smartcard credential from another duty station.
• Entry and Screening: Visitors enter through the main entrance at Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura; however, guided tour participants must use the south entrance. All personal belongings must pass through scanners and metal detection portals. Security staff may request a manual inspection. 
• Credentials: Credentials must be worn visibly and scanned on PACT System readers when entering or exiting the premises.
• Conduct: The university faculty member or group supervisor must participate in the visit and is responsible for keeping the group together. Visitors must always remain with their assigned UN official and follow the instructions of security officers in the event of an emergency. Access to unauthorized offices or areas is prohibited.
• Prohibited Items/Actions: The use of mobile phones and earplugs is prohibited during presentations. Photography of United Nations staff members or security equipment is strictly forbidden.
