Jorge Mario Martínez Piva

Jorge Mario Martínez-Piva holds a doctorate in economic and business sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), a master's degree in economic policy from the National University of Costa Rica (UNA) and a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Costa Rica (UCR). He has more than 30 years of experience in economics, international trade and integration.
Since he joined the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in 2003, he has held key positions in Santiago and in Mexico, where he headed the International Trade and Industry Unit between 2012 and 2022. Previously, he worked as a trade expert with the Organization of American States and as an adviser on regional trade and integration in the private sector in Central America. Since January 2024, he has headed the ECLAC subregional headquarters in Mexico and served as Special Adviser to the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, who has expressed his confidence in Mr Martínez-Piva's leadership in driving sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
