Luis Fidel Yáñez is a lawyer with a bachelor's degree in legal sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. His postgraduate studies in international relations include a specialized diploma from the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile. On 1 November 2020, he was appointed Secretary of the Commission of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). His previous positions at ECLAC include Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Secretary of the Commission, Legal Adviser and Political Affairs Officer. Prior to joining ECLAC, he served as Legal Consultant at the Consumers International Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.
