ECLAC Presents Economic Growth Prospects for 2012 and 2013

The Executive Secretary of ECLAC Alicia Bárcena will launch the Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean at a press conference.

(25 September 2012) On Tuesday 2 October, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will present the Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2012  at the organization's headquarters in Santiago, Chile. The report summarizes the current macroeconomic situation in the countries of the region, and shows prospects for 2012 and 2013.

This annual report, one of the most important ECLAC documents, will be launched by Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Commission, at a press conference to be held at 11:00 am.

The document sets forth that the external difficulties have caused the slowdown in the region's growth in the last months, showing significant differences among the countries. The survey also includes the estimate growth rate by country and the analysis of growth factors.

Likewise, the document analyzes the measures adopted by each country of the region to cope with external turbulences affecting the world economy since 2008 until today, and the collective actions taken by the region to face the current situation.

Also, the document contains recommendations for promoting a macroeconomic policy based on increased growth, investment and employment.
