ECLAC Caribbean provides statistical services and resources to its member states in support of analysis of policy-related issues; the formulation of evidence-based policies and programmes; the delivery of reliable indicators of progress toward Internationally Agreed Development Goals (IAGDs) such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); the building of statistical capacity and expertise of Caribbean institutions and Governments; and the provision of technical assistance.

National capacity building workshops in statistical analysis

The overall objective of the training is to strengthen the skills level of policymakers and technical officers of the Government of Grenada in statistical analysis and cost-benefit analysis which will enhance their ability to design and implement data-informed policies and strategies for accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and building a resilient economy.

Regional training workshop on the use of REDATAM for the dissemination of census and survey microdata

The overall objective of this regional workshop is to train staff from the statistical offices of Jamaica and Belize in the use of REDATAM for the development of web applications for online dissemination of census and survey microdata. With follow-up support from ECLAC to be provided as necessary, the two statistical offices will then use REDATAM for online dissemination of their 2022 census data.

Virtual Expert Group Meeting on Human Capital Formation in the Caribbean

Labour productivity has been on a declining trend in the Caribbean. An examination of this trend revealed a growing concern of skills mismatch in the labour market. At the same time, youth unemployment is high in many countries, with young women and girls twice as likely not to be in education, employment or training. These are troubling signs for human capital formation at a time when Caribbean economies are experiencing low growth, and the global economy is becoming increasingly knowledge based.

In-Person Training in Gender Statistics for Turks and Caicos Islands

The overall objective of this technical assistance is to improve the technical capacity of staff and management of the Department of Gender Affairs, the Department of Statistics, and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Government of Turks and Caicos Islands to collect, analyze, utilize and disseminate sex-disaggregated data in accordance with international standards and best practices.

Caribbean Must Build Knowledge Economy – ECLAC Caribbean Development Seminar 

Speaking at a development Seminar, part of ECLAC Caribbean’s meeting of the Monitoring Committee, the Chair of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC), and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of Suriname Albert Ramdin urged countries of the Caribbean to leverage their vast human resources to develop knowledge economies.
