Description
On 22 and 23 June, 2022, the Special Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference will be held in hybrid format at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile, with the possibility of online connection. During the meeting, delegations will exchange views and positions on the preparations for the XV Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 7 to 11 November, 2022, and whose central theme will be "The care society: horizon for a sustainable recovery with gender equality".
In addition, during the Special Meeting, delegations will participate in the Commemorative Session of the 45th anniversary of the First Regional Conference on the Integration of Women in the Economic and Social Development of Latin America, held in Havana in 1977.
The Special Meeting is organized by ECLAC, as the Secretariat of the Regional Conference, in coordination with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Woman (UN-Women). Currently, the Government of Chile chairs the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and The Caribbean, one of the subsidiary bodies of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), is the region's foremost intergovernmental forum on women's rights and gender equality.
