The ninth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean was convened by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC in compliance with ECLAC resolution 557(XXVI) and was held in Mexico City, Mexico, from 10 to 12 June 2004.

The ninth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean had the function of reviewing the implementation of the international commitments undertaken in the Regional Programme of Action for the Women of Latin America and the Caribbean, adopted at the sixth session of the Regional Conference in 1994 and reaffirmed in 2000 in the Lima Consensus. The ninth session of the Regional Conference also gave the participants an opportunity to agree on the regional input to be provided to the forty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, to be held in March 2005.
