The event "From Compass to Action: Legislating Just Transitions", to happen on Nov 17, at the ILO Just Transition Pavilion, Blue Zone at COP30, is jointly organized by the OPCC, the International Labour Organization (Brazil), GIZ, LACLIMA and Climate Strategies. The event will explore how to align legislative frameworks with labor and market dynamics to ensure that climate transitions are both environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive. It will begin with the presentation of the Just Transition Compass, a co-created manual developed with the support of the COP30 presidency. The Compass outlines possible paths forward for actioning Just Transitions, focusing on how international processes can support national implementation. Building on these insights, the event will focus on opportunities for strengthening the governance framework for Just Transitions in Latin America. The discussion will unfold through a tripartite dialogue among a legislator, an employer representative, and a workers’ representative, examining how legal frameworks can better address the social dimensions of impacts of climate transitions. The session will conclude by exploring how national legislative efforts can be better connected to the UNFCCC process, fostering coherent action that links climate ambition with social justice and equitable economic development.
