Mexico: Seminar on Financial Inclusion of SMEs in Latin America: Country Experiences and Development Bank Instruments

This seminar counts on the participation of development banks, public institutions, academics and experts in the field of financial inclusion from seven Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru).

The presentation and debate of the results of (i) national case studies focusing on the financial inclusion of SMEs in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and Peru; and (ii) studies on instruments for financial inclusion of SMEs in the case of Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico, will be carried out in the scope of the seminar. Through the presentation of case studies and the exchange of experiences among policymakers, experts and analysts, the seminar aims to advance the theme of financial inclusion and the role that development banks can play in the design of instruments and financial innovation to promote the financial inclusion of SMEs. The seminar also seeks to draw lessons and recommendations from economic and financial policymaking.

 

Expected results include: (i) to have a better understanding of the challenges of financial inclusion of SMEs through a comparative regional and national perspective; (ii) to obtain feedback on the usefulness and possible use of—or greater use of—the presented financial instruments on the part of development banks; (iii) to have an exchange about how to continue advancing on the issue of financial innovation for financial inclusion.
