The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC/CEPAL) and Senator Jaques Wagner, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Big Push for Sustainability of the Brazilian Federal Senate, are hosting the webinar “Global Proposals for a Sustainable Recovery” this coming Monday, June 29, from 10.45am to 12.45pm in Brasilia (GMT-3).
In 2019, the Brazilian Federal Senate launched a Subcommittee to propose public policies, structural reforms and economic and social development that represent a "Big Push for Sustainability" in the country. The renewed objective in the current context is to present proposals for a sustainable economic recovery from the crisis caused by the pandemic of COVID-19, which is strongly affecting Brazil and many countries in the world.
The creation of the Subcommittee was inspired by the "Big Push for Sustainability" approach, developed by ECLAC, to support countries in the region in building development styles that are more sustainable environmentally, socially and economically.
Leaders from diverse countries will virtually discuss strategies for sustainable recovery on the social, economic and environmental basis from the crisis caused by the pandemic of COVID-19. Proposals such as the Green New Deal will be addressed.
Speakers include Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC Executive Secretary, Carlos Mussi, ECLAC Director in Brazil; Carolina Schmidt, Minister of the Environment of Chile and President of the Conference of the Parties (COP); North American Congresswoman Debra Haaland; Member of European Parliament Pascal Canfin, President of the European Parliament's Environment Committee; and Andrea Meza, Director of Climate Change at the Costa Rican Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The event will be broadcast by ECLAC in Portuguese and in English through on http://live.cepal.org
