ECLAC and UNISDR join forces to bolster disaster assessment capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean

16 de fevereiro de 2016|Anúncio

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is partnering with the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) in its effort to strengthen the ability of countries across Latin America and the Caribbean to manage the impacts of disasters, in the context of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

The first collaboration between ECLAC and UNISDR will be through a two-day training targeting members of the United Nations Development Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNDG LAC), and will take place on 18-19 February in Panama City, Panama. The training will inform participants of the complexities of a disaster, how different sectors might be impacted, and how to use the damage and loss assessment methodology affectively in a timely manner.

By pooling the knowledge and tools developed by each organization, ECLAC and UNISDR will jointly enhance their support to countries affected by natural disasters in determining their path to recovery and reconstruction, and incorporating future measures to reduce vulnerabilities and increase resilience.
