A Neutral Space for Analyzing Brazil’s
International Insertion

As of mid last year, ECLAC’s Office in Brasilia has been periodically inviting government officials, academics, private sector representatives and diplomats to discuss issues related to Brazil’s international insertion.

Those who participate in these Debates in the Office workshops are not officially representing their institutions or governments. They make use of the free and neutral space provided by the United Nations at the ECLAC Offices in the Brazilian capital to express their personal opinions, based on their own experiences and world views.

Five discussion rounds have taken place so far on subjects such as Brazil’s relations with other Latin American nations, the nature and implications of the country’s participation in the G-20, Amazon development projects, following up the Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change and South-South Cooperation.

These debates are part of a project supported by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). After each meeting, a summary of the main aspects and positions discussed during the workshop is drafted. This text is posted on the ECLAC Office’s website under Debates in the Office, withholding the names of participants.

For more information, see the ECLAC Office in Brasilia website.
