The First Training Course on Information Society Measurement in the Caribbean workshop is organized by the United Nations Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), as part of the activities of its project Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean (OSILAC), under the framework of the actions of the Statistical Conference of the Americas and the Partnership on Measuring ICT for development, particularly with the support of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), who will deliver the course and provide the training material.
The objective of this training course is to offer the National Statistic Offices of the Caribbean region the opportunity to strengthen their capacities to produce national statistics on the access and use of ICT in households and by individuals, as well as on ICT use in business. The ICT statistics and indicators will allow Governments to elaborate and evaluate their ICT policies for development and to take measures to bridge the digital divide within and between countries. The one-week course will be based on training material developed by UNCTAD and ITU in the framework of their work as members of the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development.
