Objective
The objective of the Statistical Coordination Group for the 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean is to coordinate the process of preparation and implementation of regional indicators and the development of capacities for this, within the framework of monitoring the SDGs for Latin America and the Caribbean. The Group will be established within the scope of SCA-ECLAC and develops its activities in accordance with the work of the Inter-institutional Group of Experts on the Indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (IAEG-SDG) and with the activities and decisions of the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB).
Since its creation, the Group provides strategic leadership for the process of implementation of the SDGs in the region, regarding the development and calculation of indicators, statistical monitoring, and reporting, and promotes national ownership of the regional statistical monitoring framework of the 2030 Agenda and fosters capacity building, cooperation and coordination, including ensuring coherence between regional and global monitoring, thus serving as an articulating node for the relevant statistical actors in the region.
Members
The Statistical Coordination Group consists of 10 countries, five of representatives of the national statistical systems of the countries comprising the InterAgency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators and five of High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ensuring the representation of subregional groupings.
In addition to the countries, ECLAC participates in the group as technical secretariat and this architecture is also complemented by the statistical counterparts of the funds, programs and specialized agencies of the United Nations and regional and international organizations with a presence in the region, given the specificities , expertise and knowledge of the issues addressed in the 2030 Agenda.

Background
The creation of the Statistical Coordination Group for the 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean responds to the request of the SCA-ECLAC member states made during the eighth meeting of the Conference in November 2015 to define a new governance scheme for generate a regional implementation plan that will gradually cover the information requirements derived from the 2030 Agenda in the region.
This is how the Executive Committee of the SCA at its fifteenth meeting in June 2016 approves the creation of the Statistical Coordination Group as a joint working mechanism to address coordination actions around statistical information related to the SDGs.
Activities
The Group meets twice a year in person or virtually, taking advantage of the regional or international instances existing in the annual calendar of statistical meetings of the countries of the region. Between these meetings, it carries out its work through an electronic platform set up for the Group. Presents an annual report to the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC, which in turn will transmit them to the CEA, and will address the Conference's recommendations on its activities.
