The Regional Conference on South-South Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean, a subsidiary body of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), aims to promote the strengthening of national South-South and triangular cooperation mechanisms and their possible interactions with North-South and multilateral cooperation. The conference encouraged regional and extra-regional actors, donor countries and international organizations to engage in South-South and triangular cooperation to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer and achieve cooperation activities.

After a joint effort by the different divisions involved, the introduction of the Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2022, the transformation of education as a basis for sustainable development was launched as a version compatible with screen readers.

The report "Measuring disability through administrative records of education in Latin America: diagnosis and recommendations to move towards regional harmonization" presents a proposal for measuring disability for administrative records in education at the initial, primary, secondary, tertiary and higher education levels to be applied in Latin America and to move towards a framework of comparability and harmonization between countries in the region of statistical information on students with disabilities.

When the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all 193 Member States of the United Nations at the Sustainable Development Summit in New York in September 2015 as “a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future”, it presented a historic opportunity for Latin America and the Caribbean. Despite progress, the region needs to step up their efforts.

Prior to the pandemic, education in the region was already facing significant inclusion and quality challenges. Asimismo, se dedicó una parte del encuentro a compartir metodologías y experiencias con los nuevos países que están considerando realizar el estudio próximamente. También se discutió el plan de trabajo para 2023 y la difusión de los estudios realizados por la Red.

Transitioning towards a care society as a horizon for sustainable recovery with gender equality will be the theme of the fifteenth Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, scheduled to take place this November in Argentina.

En el contexto del primer encuentro virtual del ciclo de conversatorios “Transitando los Cuidados: conceptualizaciones y prácticas: desde la visión de los organismos internacionales”, profesionales de la División de Asuntos de Género y de la División de Desarrollo Social de CEPAL, destacaron el rol de los sistemas de protección social en cuanto a revertir la injusta organización de los cuidados, además de dar cuenta de las posiciones sobre los cuidados en América Latina y nutrir a la comunidad en torno a la reinterpretación del concepto y prácticas de cuidado, a partir de las experiencias de diferentes actores sociales.
