The Intersessional Meeting was held from 17 to 19 November 2015 in Mexico City and aimed to follow-up on the decisions taken at the previous meeting and prepare the recommendations to be considered by the Ministers at the next Forum to take place in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) in March 2016.

In the interactive dialogue on toxic wastes and safe drinking water and sanitation of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva on 16 and 17 September 2015, the Special Rapporteurs on human rights and hazardous substances and wastes, Mr. Başkut Tuncak (Turkey), and on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation, Mr. Léo Heller (Brazil), highlighted the importance of the rights of access to information, participation and justice in environmental matters for their respective mandates.

El fuerte crecimiento económico que han experimentado muchos países de la región, les ha permitido reducir la pobreza y aumentar el bienestar social. Sin embargo, este crecimiento no es sostenible ya que está asociado a niveles altos de contaminación y a consecuencias negativas para el medio ambiente. Por otra parte, la recaudación tributaria en América Latina es baja y es fuertemente dependiente de los recursos naturales. En este contexto, una reforma fiscal ambiental puede introducir incentivos para un consumo sostenible y producción sostenibles, reduciendo los impactos negativos sobre el medio ambiente, a la vez que permite aumentar la base tributaria del gobierno.

- Entre el 29 y el 31 de julio se realizará, en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, el curso internacional “Cambio climático, economía ambiental y estilos de desarrollo”, cuyo propósito es fortalecer los conocimientos sobre el análisis económico del medio ambiente, los bienes públicos, las externalidades asociadas a las actividades económicas, el uso de instrumentos económicos, regulaciones y política ambiental para enfrentar el cambio climático.
