Los días 2 y 3 de octubre de 2023 se llevó a cabo en Buenos Aires, Argentina, la Sesión Ordinaria Anual de la Red Latinoamericana de Sistemas de Evaluación de Impacto Ambiental (REDLASEIA). Este evento fue coorganizado por la Secretaría de Cambio Climático, Desarrollo Sostenible e Innovación de Argentina, la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) y la Cooperación Alemana, a través del proyecto “Cooperación Regional para la gestión sustentable de los recursos mineros en los países andinos” (MinSus) implementado por la GIZ y BGR.

Hace 33 años, la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas designó el 1 de octubre el Día Internacional de las Personas de Edad. Este hito busca otorgar la prioridad que merece el envejecimiento en la discusión internacional y nacional, dando espacio a acciones urgentes en las diversas esferas sociales. De esta manera se busca posicionar la protección de los derechos de las personas mayores en el centro de las respuestas de la política pública, para así ir incorporando la visión y los compromisos que emanan de los acuerdos internacionales y regionales.

La Secretaría Técnica y la Presidencia de la Conferencia Regional Intergubernamental sobre Envejecimiento y Derechos de las Personas Mayores de América Latina y el Caribe realizan este evento paralelo en el marco de la Quinta Conferencia Regional sobre Desarrollo Social de América Latina y el Caribe, cuyo objetivo principal es generar un espacio de diálogo y reflexión sobre los desafíos de los países de la región para avanzar hacia sociedades que sitúen al cuidado al centro de su quehacer, garantizando los derechos y el bienestar de las personas mayores.

In the context of recovery with transformation, it is crucial to promote labor inclusion policies focused on population groups in situations of greater vulnerability, that is, to implement policies that promote equal opportunities to access and develop productive jobs that generate sufficient income to live a decent life and provide job security and social protection, as well as prospects for personal development, social integration and freedom to express opinions, organize and participate in making decisions that affect one's own life. Promoting labor inclusion is not only important for reducing structural inequalities in the region, but also for the economic and sustainable development of the region's countries.

With excellent attendance, on Friday, September 29th, the first virtual seminar of the ROSA network was held, composed of founding countries: Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. The seminar took place in synergy with the Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors (CODIA), the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation (FCAS), and the Center for the Study and Experimentation of Public Works in Spain (CEDEX). The seminar was part of the Third Session of the Virtual Course "Sectoral Policy and Planning for Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment," specifically in the second module focusing on "Development of the Regulatory, Institutional, and Financial Framework of the Sanitation Sector in LAC." The event had the participation of more than 114 connected people, including all the focal points of the countries in the ROSA project network.

The 8th Meeting of Experts of the Community of Practice on Agricultural Insurance in Central America and the Dominican Republic took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on September 28th and 29th of 2023 and was organized and developed by the Economic Commission of Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in coordination with the Executive Secretary of the Central American Council (SECAC) with the support of General Director´s Office of Agricultural Risk of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic. The meeting was carried out in person with virtual means during the two days scheduled for the event.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), together with UN Women and CARICOM, held the first part of the Gender Statistics and Indicators course from 13 to 15 September in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The course was attended by 29 representatives of national statistical offices and machineries for the advancement of women from member and associate countries.
