ECLAC’s Digital Repository went up 12 places in the Ranking of World Repositories

In the last edition of The Ranking of World Repositories by Webometrics, the Digital Repository is located between the 50 best repositories in the category of “Top Portals”.

The Ranking of World Repositories is an initiative from the research group Cybermetrics Lab. This group is part of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, which is the biggest research body in Spain.

The ranking’s main purpose is to measure the global visibility and the impact that the mayor scientific repositories have. Through this, the idea is to support the open access initiatives for all of the publications.

In July 2016, the ECLAC’s Digital Repository occupied the 60th place in the ranking among 163 institutions. During the same month, the library launched the Digital Repository 2.0. Since then until February 2017, the Repository has gone up 12 places in the ranking, occupying now the 48th place among 223 institutions.  

The web indicators that determines the ranking takes in consideration the size of the repository, its visibility, the quality or the documents together with the downloading formats that are available. Finally the amount of entrances through Google Scholar are also taken into consideration.

The Hernán Santa Cruz Library continues working on developing the repository to improve the visibility of the Commission's official documents. Today between 150.000 and 200.000 downloads are registered every month.
