The objective of the Census Working Group is to support countries in the region in the evaluation, analysis and identification of lessons learned from the 2010 population and housing censuses and in the preparation of the 2020 census round, as well as, in the improvement of vital statistics systems and the development of population estimates and projections. To promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences among countries such as those related to the implementation of new technologies.
The implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and other international agreements will require countries to provide a large amount of information to generate the different monitoring indicators. Data from population and housing censuses and vital statistics will provide inputs for the estimation of these indicators for small areas and specific population groups which will support public policies aimed at reducing persistent inequality in the region.
The member countries of the Census Working Group are: Argentina, Bolivia (Plurinational State of) Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of) the latter officiating as Coordinator of the group.
