The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is participating in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), a crucial milestone in the fight against the climate and ecological crisis, which is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December. The ECLAC delegation is headed by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of the regional body, who will participate in various sessions of the global forum. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), adopted in 2015, embody the consensus of governments and different stakeholders to work collaboratively towards a transformative vision of economic, social and environmental sustainability, by correcting asymmetries and building an open and stable international system. Complying with the Agenda will need to find a balance between employment and equality policies in each country with the restrictions imposed to national decisions by an open world system.
