"The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is the world’s blueprint for a better future for all on a healthy planet. On World Population Day, we recognize that this mission is closely interrelated with demographic trends including population growth, ageing, migration and urbanization."
The global population of older persons is expected to rise from just over 900 million in 2015 to 1.4 billion by 2030 and 2.1 billion by 2050, Ban Ki-moon points out in his message.
“I call on Governments to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable so that no one - of any age - is left behind,” UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, states in his annual message.
"This year's commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction is an opportunity to recognize the role of older men and women in fostering resilience", the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says in his message.
"Se prevé que el número de personas de edad aumentará más del doble en todo el mundo, de 841 millones en 2013 a más de 2.000 millones en 2050", dice en su mensaje el Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas, Ban Ki-moon.
"As we commemorate this Day for the first time, let us all join in reaffirming that the human rights of older persons are as absolute as those of all human beings", says Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General.
