Este capítulo analiza las brechas económicas en Haití, para identificar las brechas estructurales dentro de la economía haitiana (brechas verticales) y respecto a países de la subregión (Centroamérica y Caribe) y fuera de ella (brechas horizontales). La investigación se realizó en dos etapas: en un primer momento se construyó una matriz de insumo producto (MIP) para Haití, y en una segunda etapa, se elaboró una MIP regional que incorpora la economía de Haití.

Además, la reciente pandemia generada por el coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) y sus variantes ocasionó una de las caídas económicas más profundas de los pasados 100 años, generando mayor pobreza y desigualdad.

El trabajo considera la desigualdad desde un análisis de la pobreza y la estratificación social en México, aplicando el Método de Medición Integrada de la Pobreza (MMIP). Se propone trabajar sobre la distribución del ingreso y la riqueza y en fomentar la actividad económica. La lucha contra la pobreza tiene referirse a todos los pobres, los que viven en pobreza estructural y moderada, en el medio urbano y rural.
