Approximately 100 young people from the Caribbean are set to login and discuss issues affecting sustainable development and their endangered future existence as island people at the Caribbean Youth Dialogues 2024 on 3-4 April. The youth of the Caribbean will meet to brainstorm how to get Caribbean Small Island Developing States onto the path to sustainable development while grappling with slow development, the impacts of the COVID pandemic and other social and economic challenges.

Director of ECLAC Caribbean Diane Quarless says that the international community will need to contribute more to support the development of Small Island Developing States; indeed, if the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are not achieved across all countries, then it is the entire global community that assumes responsibility, since the commitment to implement Agenda 2030 was made collectively by all states. Director Quarless was speaking at a media breakfast in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, organized by the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean on Thursday (28 Sep).

Sub-Regional Director for the Caribbean of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Diane Quarless says Caribbean SIDS (Small Island Developing States) must stop working in silos to tackle development challenges and unlock the full potential of the region.   Director Quarless was speaking in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at a meeting of Caribbean SIDS, where representatives from 16 countries are assessing progress on sustainable development and planning for the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2024.

The 29th session of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) concluded on 14 October in Paramaribo, Suriname. Some of the most urgent and challenging issues facing the Caribbean were discussed at this meeting, inspiring a commitment to strategic action-oriented follow-up, to assure more dynamic sustainable development process.
