Objective:

To contribute with its partners to the design, execution, and monitoring of public policies that promote sustainable and inclusive development in the agricultural sector, rural areas, and the food and nutritional system, with special attention to comprehensive risk management, food and nutritional security, and sustainable agriculture-adapted climate change. The following Sustainable Development Goals stand out in the work carried out by this unit:

Main Partners:

Ministries of Agriculture, the Central American Council of Agriculture (CAC) and its Executive Secretariat within the Central American Integration System (SICA) framework.

National Institutes of Statistics and the Central American Commission of Statistics (CENTROESTAD), PRESANCA.

Organizations of the economic subsystem of Central American integration such as the Secretariat of Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) and the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Monetary Council.

Multilateral international organizations such as FAO, IFAD, and IICA.

Lines of work:

Within the framework of the agreement between ECLAC and SECAC, and following the orientation of the Climate-Adapted Strategy of Agriculture promoted by CAC, the subregional headquarters of ECLAC in Mexico has been executing a variety of actions, including technical assistance and analysis for the formulation of public policies in the following topics:

- Agricultural and rural development

- Food and nutritional security

- Statistics and Information Systems

- Comprehensive Risk Management and Agricultural Insurance

- Impact of climate change on agriculture and food and nutritional security and response options

Activities:

Applied analysis and dissemination of knowledge, technical advice and capacity building, information systems development, expert meetings, and community roundtables.

Initiatives:

Sustainable and inclusive agriculture adapted to climate change, including food and nutritional security in SICA member countries.

Traditional and indexed agricultural insurance aimed at micro and small rural producers in SICA countries, from a comprehensive risk management perspective.

Information management for policies and projects related to rural and agricultural development, including topics such as climate change and food and nutritional security, with SICA countries.
