Activity C:Capacity building studies and seminar on market access and the new port and maritime security measures and the
regulations on maritime and port security and their effect on
agricultural exports
For
this activity, studies were undertaken on the economic impact of the
new port and maritime security measures and the effects of these
measures and de Bio-terrorism law on agricultural exports. The studies
were presented and discussed at the seminar that took place in
Lima, Peru on December 12-13, and that was organized in coordination
with the Ministery of Trade and Tourism of Peru. The seminar counted
with the participation of representatives from public and private
institutions involved in port and maritime security issues as well as
representatives from export promotion agencies from several Latin
American countries. ECLAC officials, as well as invited experts from
the region served on several panels.
In
preparation for the seminar, missions were taken to the different
countries. Additionally, the aspects related to the implementation of
the new port and maritime security measures were discussed. During the
missions and at the request of their respective governments, a seminar
and a round table disussion were held on port and maritime security and
their effects on agricultural exports.

Lima, Peru, December 12-13, 2005.
This seminar discussed port and maritime security and their
effects on agricultural exports in Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay and Uruguay. The seminar counted on the participation of both public and private officials.
