"Workshop Promotion of Artisan Exports"

The
Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), with
the financial support of the Canadian International Development Agency
(CIDA/ACDI), in collaboration with the Corporation for Export and Investment Promotion (CORPEI) of Ecuador organized this
seminar in Quito, Ecuador, on 26 October, 2006.
The
goal of the workshop was to encourage dialogue on the topic of
promotion of artisan exports and to analyze the experiences of several
countries in the region. The document produced by Jose Franco, project
consultant, titled "Study of the Legal and Institutional Framework of
the Artisan Sector in Ecuador" was presented and discussed. Cases of
successful promotion of artisan exports in Mexico, Colombia and Chile
were discussed at the workshop. Among the 50 participants in the
seminar were representatives from the public and private sectors as
well as numerous associations of Ecuadorian artisans.
