ECLAC and IDLO Join Forces to Advise the Region’s Countries on Economic Policies Oriented towards Sustainable Development

31 March 2015|News

Both institutions signed a cooperation agreement last January.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) will cooperate on economic and juridical matters to support the region’s countries in the design of economic policies oriented towards boosting sustainable development, including those measures aimed at mitigating climate change impacts.

The two organizations signed a cooperation agreement to this effect last January, which will contribute to the development and strengthening of ECLAC and IDLO’s scientific and research work.

On the part of ECLAC, the implementation of this accord will be led by the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division (DDSAH in Spanish), which, among other activities, offers the region’s countries technical assistance to design, implement and evaluate public policies, as well as to analyze fiscal mechanisms that can contribute to confronting climate change.

IDLO, meanwhile, is an intergovernmental organization, created in 1988 and with its headquarters in Rome, that supports emerging economies and middle-income countries to strengthen their institutions and legal frameworks in order to promote peace and justice and achieve sustainable economic development.
