Las personas mayores de América Latina y el Caribe venimos participando en distintos procesos sociales y políticos que tienen como objetivo incidir en las situaciones materiales en las que vivimos en la región, así como en las representaciones sociales estigmatizantes respecto de la vejez, que generan verdaderos procesos de discriminación y exclusión y afectan nuestras posibilidades efectivas de formar parte de la sociedad. Durante décadas, ciertas representaciones sociales discriminatorias y algunas políticas públicas que recortan derechos nos han mostrado como un grupo de personas egoístas que solo se preocupan por sus intereses, incluso a costa de recortar los derechos de otros grupos de población.

La llamada “crisis de los cuidados” provocada por la pandemia de enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19) ha revelado las desigualdades a que se enfrentan tanto las mujeres y sus familias como las personas que trabajan en el ámbito de los cuidados y, por supuesto, quienes los requieren. En dicho contexto, el territorio, el género, la pertenencia étnica, la clase social, la situación migratoria, las identidades sexogenéricas y la situación de salud o enfermedad, entre otros, profundizan y perpetúan las desigualdades socioterritoriales. Asimismo, otro hecho manifiesto es que los cuidados de largo plazo se encuentran en crisis y requieren, también, una urgente reorganización, redistribución y revalorización social.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) conducted a training on gender statistics and indicators for the Ministry of Finance of Chile and its dependent and related institutions. This training was carried out in the context of the technical assistance that the Division for Gender Affairs, in coordination with the Economic Development Division of ECLAC, conducts for that institution. The training was attended by 70 staff members and consisted of four virtual sessions and an in-person ideas workshop held between November and December 2023.

The side event that took place in the SDG Pavilion aimed to foster knowledge exchange and discuss the potential benefits of integrated water-energy systems. It underscored the importance of a coordinated approach to water and energy in the context of climate change mitigation and adaptation, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals 6 (clean water and sanitation), 7 (affordable and clean energy), and 13 (climate action).

En una época signada por la intensificación de los flujos intrarregionales de la migración internacional y mayor heterogeneidad en cuanto a su origen, destino y factores determinantes, la última edición del Panorama Social de América Latina y el Caribe 2023 incluye un análisis sobre la inclusión laboral de personas migrantes. En ello, se realiza un examen de las características de la inserción laboral en países con información actualizada y confiable de censos de población de vivienda y, más novedosamente, con datos de encuestas de hogares en países donde la información permite examinar la inserción laboral y otros antecedentes.

El 30 de octubre, en el marco del Día Internacional de los Cuidados y el Apoyo, se desarrolló el evento "Contando los cuidados en el CJF". Por otro lado, el 29 de noviembre, la CJF organizó el 11° Congreso Nacional de Justicia y Género con el tema "La Violencia de Género y sus Manifestaciones en el Ámbito Institucional y Laboral".
