Fifty-fifth meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean
In consultation with the Government of Uruguay, in its capacity as Chair of the Presiding Officers elected at the thirteenth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Montevideo in October 2016, the Presiding Officers agreed to hold their fifty-fifth meeting from 25 to 26 May 2017 at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago.
At their fifty-fifth meeting, the Presiding Officers will review the activities carried out to apply the Montevideo Strategy for Implementation of the Regional Gender Agenda within the Sustainable Development Framework by 2030, which was adopted by ECLAC member States at the thirteenth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Presiding Officers will receive reports on the participation of the secretariat and of national machineries for the advancement of women in relevant meetings. In particular, the outcome of the first meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development and its linkages with the Regional Gender Agenda and the Montevideo Strategy will be reviewed.
A panel discussion will be held on the link between vocational education and training and young women’s participation in the labour force in the region, and the Gender Equality Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean will present a new study on gender equality plans in the region. Pursuant to paragraphs 10 and 11 of resolution 6(XIII) adopted at the thirteenth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, a report will be presented on the progress made by the working group on the regional fund in support of women’s and feminist organizations and movements.
